George Okitoi is a Legal Associate at TASLAF Advocates in the Commercial
Advisory and Dispute Resolution Department and the Tax Department. He is a
dynamic and results-oriented professional with a strong academic foundation in law
and a keen interest in emerging global issues such as digitalisation and sustainable
finance.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Second Class Upper Honours from Makerere
University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with Merit from the Law
Development Centre. He is currently enrolled for a Post Graduate Diploma in Tax
and Revenue Administration at the East African School of Taxation.
George has vast experience in research, writing, drafting, presentation, and vast
legal knowledge of the Uganda legal regime and international laws on corporate and
commercial law, banking and finance, cyberspace, environment, intellectual
property, taxation, oil and gas, and international trade.
His diverse academic journey includes specialised training in international trade law,
cyber law, international labour standards, and climate change, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development. George has also acquired a broad range of skills through certificate courses in carbon taxation, cybersecurity, AI, marketing, and leadership training from the Aspire Institute at Harvard University. With a solid legal background and a passion for making a positive impact,
George is eager to contribute his expertise to serving his clients in complex legal and tax issues.
Transactional work experience
Participated in the representation a communal land association in negotiations for the sale and lease of land to a major cement manufacturer in Uganda worth over UGX 51 billion.
Assisted in advising UNAIDS on an amicus curie application before the Supreme Court of Uganda.
Assisted in advising and successfully helped a major chocolate manufacturer in Uganda with the recovery of more than UGX 800 million in tax credit from the Uganda Revenue Authority.
Reviewed contracts such as employment contracts, human resource manuals, volunteer contracts, probation contracts, casual/temporary staff contracts consultancy contracts and tenancy agreements for entities such as Mercy Corps, WALIMU, Village Enterprise, Cycle Connect, Up Energy,
Spouts of Water, African Youth Action Network, HEKS/EPER, ACORD among others.
Assisted in advising a Chinese multinational company on the tax implications of carrying out cryptocurrency mining in Uganda. Advised on various applications and petitions before the High Court Family Division for divorce, matrimonial property and custody of children among others.
Participated in structuring a land sale agreement on behalf of a non-profit organization for the purchase of land worth UGX 2 billion.
Assisted in advising an international impact finance organisation on the recovery of a $ 400,000 loan from a Ugandan-based company.
Provided legal opinions and advice on tax issues such as tax compliance, deemed VAT, voluntary disclosure procedure, objection to tax assessments, transfer pricing, ledger reconciliation, tax incentives and exemptions to various domestic and international clients such as the American Bar
Association, ACORD, Grameen, Groundbreaker Talents Limited, Church World Service, Hello tractor, Johanniter, Latitude Trading Company Limited, Uganda Bio Diversity Trust Fund, Okoa Refuge among others.
